Volvo is taking a bold swing at the heart of the EV market with the new EX60, an all-electric mid-size SUV that promises best-in-class range, ultra-fast charging and a price point designed for mass adoption. Positioned as a five-seat, family-focused model, the EX60 is billed as the car that “removes all remaining obstacles for going electric” and marks Volvo’s first entry into the largest global electric segment.

Game-changing range, charging and powertrains

In its flagship P12 AWD Electric configuration, the EX60 targets a segment-leading range of up to 400 miles on a single charge, outpacing any previous Volvo EV and beating key newly revealed rivals. Volvo says this moves the conversation from range anxiety to “range comfort,” bringing real-world usability closer to gasoline-powered vehicles.

Fast charging performance follows the same no-compromise philosophy: on a 400 kW DC fast charger, the EX60 can add up to 173 miles of range in about 10 minutes, making a coffee stop enough to get back on the road. In the U.S., it will be the first Volvo to feature a native NACS charging port, enabling direct access to more than 25,000 Tesla Supercharger DC fast chargers without an adapter.

The EX60 launches with three core electric powertrains: the P12 AWD Electric with up to 400 miles of range, the P10 AWD Electric with up to 320 miles, and the rear-wheel-drive P6 Electric with up to 310 miles. In total, seven variants will be offered to cover a broad spectrum of needs and budgets, all backed by a 10-year battery warranty.

New EV platform, lower CO₂ footprint

Under the skin, the EX60 debuts Volvo’s new SPA3 electric vehicle architecture, paired with the in-house HuginCore computing platform. This combination is designed for scalability and modularity, while also driving manufacturing efficiencies and cost reductions.

Key technologies include cell-to-body battery integration, next-generation in-house e-motors, a new battery cell design and large “mega casting” components, all aimed at boosting energy efficiency and range while cutting weight. As a result, Volvo says the EX60 achieves the lowest carbon footprint of any fully electric Volvo so far, matching the smaller EX30 and strengthening its appeal as a greener choice.

Scandinavian design, serious comfort and sound

The EX60 carries Volvo’s Scandinavian design language into a new all-electric era with a clean, confident exterior and a minimalist, high-end cabin. A low front, sloping roofline and tapered sides contribute to a drag coefficient of 0.26, helping deliver its class-leading range.

Inside, a long wheelbase and flat floor translate into generous rear legroom, a large luggage compartment and multiple clever storage solutions for everyday usability. Audiophiles are targeted with an optional 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system that, for the first time in a Volvo, integrates headrest speakers for all four main seats and supports Apple Music with Dolby Atmos for immersive Spatial Audio.

AI-powered intelligence and ultra-responsive UX

Volvo calls the EX60 its most intelligent car yet, driven by the latest generation of HuginCore, which allows the vehicle to “think, process and act” using powerful onboard computing. The tech stack blends in-house software with platforms from partners like Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm to deliver a highly responsive digital experience.

The EX60 is also the first Volvo to launch with Gemini, Google’s new AI assistant, deeply integrated into the car so drivers can speak naturally without memorizing specific voice commands. The infotainment system is designed to be lag-free, with instant screen responses, fast map loading, better voice recognition and UX shortcuts that put key functions within quick reach.

Safety first: new hardware, smarter protection

True to the brand’s DNA, Volvo positions the EX60 as one of the safest cars on the market, representing the “purest” version of its Safety Standard and going beyond regulatory requirements and test protocols. Enabled by HuginCore and a wide sensor suite, the EX60 constantly reads its surroundings to build a clear, precise understanding of the road environment.

A multi-adaptive safety belt system, a world-first and award-winning Volvo innovation, brings smarter, more personalized restraint performance for front occupants. At the structure level, a heavily reinforced safety cage with boron steel and state-of-the-art restraint systems work together to help deliver optimal crash protection.

Always improving: OTA updates and rollout timeline

Like a modern connected device, the EX60 is engineered to get better over time through regular over-the-air software updates. That means new features, refinements and performance optimizations can be delivered long after delivery, extending the vehicle’s technological lifespan.

Orders for the EX60 are now open in European markets, with the United States to follow in late spring. Production is scheduled to start this spring at Volvo’s plant in Sweden, with customer deliveries of the P6 and P10 variants beginning in the summer and the flagship P12 arriving shortly thereafter.
