OnStar is bringing extra holiday magic to the road this year with the return of its long-running Santa tracking experience, now paired with a brand-new audio series called “Santa… in Space!” for members in Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. Beginning December 17, families can press the blue OnStar button in their vehicle or use the OnStar Guardian app to access a seven-part, sound-rich adventure written by bestselling children’s author Adam Rubin, leading up to Christmas Eve.

“Santa… in Space!” audio series

The exclusive “Santa… in Space!” series places listeners alongside Santa and his high-tech sidekick, Reindeer 3000, on an intergalactic mission that unfolds over seven episodes. Each day from December 17–23, a new chapter becomes available through OnStar, immersing passengers in a cinematic, space-faring storyline designed to build anticipation as Christmas approaches. By tapping into OnStar’s in-vehicle connectivity, the experience turns everyday drives into a family-friendly holiday event.

Live Santa tracking on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, OnStar will once again connect families directly to Santa’s journey with real-time location updates, continuing a 17-year tradition that has become a seasonal highlight for many drivers. In partnership with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), specially trained OnStar Santa Flight Advisors will be on call to share Santa’s latest sleigh sightings at the press of the blue button, whether he is flying over the ocean or closing in on his next stop. Advisors describe the experience as feeling “like we’re part of Santa’s team,” as they relay live updates that capture children’s excitement on the other end of the line.

How families can join the fun

From December 17–23, OnStar members can access “Santa… in Space!” simply by pressing the blue OnStar button in their vehicle or using the Guardian app on their smartphone. On December 24 and through 5 a.m. ET on December 25, that same blue button becomes the gateway to live Santa tracking, offering families an easy way to check how close Santa might be to their home. Whether used on a long road trip or a quick drive around town, the service adds a layer of festive storytelling and real-time wonder to the holiday commute.

Every button press helps others

In addition to entertaining and delighting families, OnStar is using the Santa experience to support a charitable cause this holiday season. For every blue button push on Christmas Eve that is made to follow Santa, OnStar will donate 1 dollar to the American Red Cross, up to a total of 30,000 dollars. By turning a simple request for Santa’s whereabouts into a contribution, OnStar encourages members to share in the spirit of giving while they celebrate.

Bringing holiday magic to the road

With its combination of an original, space-themed audio saga and live Santa tracking powered with help from NORAD, OnStar aims to make Christmas travel more engaging for children and adults alike. Whether families are buckling in young passengers eager for the next interstellar update or simply embracing the season as “young at heart,” OnStar invites them to press the blue button, settle in and enjoy a ride filled with cosmic cheer and holiday joy.
